Fired Up - Contemporary Works in Clay

A collaboration of crafted design and the effects of wood and smoke firing will be on display this year at Fired Up! Members are embarking on a four day firing at Gordon Hutchens' Denman Island Pottery to bring you their latest creations caressed by the flames of the firing. We look forward to seeing everyone again this May.

The 2023 show's theme is Smoke & Fire.

Exhibition booths: 9 core members of Fired Up! plus 3 guest artists.

Vin Arora, Alan Burgess, Samantha Dickie, Sandra Dolph, Sandy Harquail, Gordon Hutchens, Cathi Jefferson, Meira Mathison, and Kinichi Shigeno. This years guest artists are Ayal Heinrichs, Sarah Leckie, and Ellen Statz.

Our annual show is a much-anticipated tradition eagerly awaited for by Ceramic enthusiasts and collectors. It is held on the last weekend of May, yearly, at Metchosin Hall, on the outskirts of Victoria.

The first Fired Up! hosted by Robin Hopper and Judi Dyelle in their Metchosin garden, brought together 12 ceramic artists who shared a vision of more than just another pottery sale. It was to show the public the many diverse ways of working with clay by demonstration and exhibition.

The annual show is a much anticipated tradition in Metchosin Hall, on the outskirts of Victoria, as well as an opportunity to come together to inspire, inform and support each other.

For over 35 years, there have been a total of 23 members of the Fired Up! group. The current core group consists of people who continue to produce and exhibit exciting and innovative work.

Through the years the artists of Fired-Up! have been featured in venues both across Canada and the USA, including 25th anniversary shows at the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery in Waterloo, Ont. and at the Jonathon Bancroft-Snell Gallery in London, Ont. In the last decade, they also exhibited at two NCECA Conferences, in Portland, Ore. and in Seattle, Wa.

Today, Fired Up! is the longest running ceramic exhibition group in Canada.
