Kay Lovett's work starts with sketches: planning the composition. She finds her ideas everywhere through Inspiration>> Music: (Jazz, Blues and more>> she always paints to music) Art history: Picasso, Kandinsky, William Tolliver, Diego Rivera, Freda Kahlo, Rousseau ... the irreverent irony of Joseph Beuys ... and the cartoons of Chuck Jones.
Equally important is the Texture of the canvas, her surfaces are ragged and layered with mediums & colours (oils or acrylics). The canvas becomes a landscape - no matter what the subject.
Her paintings are whimsical and engaging. She also works in a variety of other mediums including video, web and assisting her husband, animator and artist Glen Lovett with the typesetting and technical side of publishing his award-winning graphic novel series The Adventures of Jasper.
